BURSTYesterday, Jorge Díaz-Rullo made the second ascent of Stefano Ghisolfi’s P.I.G. V15 (8C) at Gottardo Pass in Ticino, Switzerland. Ghisolfi established the route earlier this summer. It links Quiet Storm V14 (established this year by Francesco Berardino) and Rosa Maialino V11. According to his 8a.nu page, this is Díaz-Rullo’s ninth V15, two of which he ticked this year.
“A pretty good welcome to Gottardo,” said a happy Díaz-Rullo on Instagram. “A boulder I tried back in June with [Stefano Ghisolfi]. He managed to do the first ascent, while I left it unfinished. This time, with good skin and good conditions, I managed to send it in just a few tries. A bit of an eliminate line, but a really fun one, with hard moves at the beginning and a spicy bit of endurance at the end.”
The boulder is a very long traverse on wildly steep terrain with tiny crimps and slopers. At roughly the midpoint, there is a kneebar rest before the final section. Ghisolfi used a kneepad, which allowed him to really milk the kneebar rest, but Díaz-Rullo did not. When he sent, Ghisolfi expressed a bit of disappointment, saying on Instagram, “Unfortunately, it was not as hard as I expected, but fun anyway!”
Díaz-Rullo, known for his sport climbing, has been bouldering a lot this year. A couple of weeks ago, he flashed Jaro V13 in Cercedilla, Spain. Back in June, he achieved his first V13 flash ever with Voz Suave Del Mar in Ticino. This summer, he also ticked Andularia V15 and Hazel Grace V14 (also in Ticino) in just a few days. Other hard ascents Díaz-Rullo has made in 2026 include a third ascent of Quiet Storm V14 in Ticino and Street Fighter Sit V13/14 in Alcolea del Pinar, Spain. He sent his hardest boulder two years ago, Muerte por Asfixia V16, in La Pedriza, Spain.
Díaz-Rullo is one of the best sport climbers in the world. The 27-year-old has climbed at least eight routes graded 5.15b, two 5.15b/c, two 5.15c, and one 5.15d. In February 2023, he made the FA of Mejorando la Samfaina 5.15c in Margalef, Spain. Later in October of that year, he climbed Bibliographie 5.15c in Céüse. In August 2024, he climbed Adam Ondra’s Change with kneepads in Flatanger, calling it 5.15b/c. He also repeated Ondra’s Move and called it 5.15b/c. Earlier this year, he finally clipped the chains on his multi-year mega-project, Café Colombia, grading the route 5.15d. It has not yet been repeated.
