A man was found dead after an early morning house fire in Surrey, and police are investigating to determine whether it was suspicious.

It happened in the 12700-block of 56th Avenue in the Panorama Ridge neighbourhood at about 7 a.m. Monday. The home was fully engulfed in flames.

When Surrey firefighters were able to enter the residence and search for victims, they found the body of an adult man.

Surrey Police Service’s serious crime unit is working with the coroner and fire investigators “to determine if the death is suspicious, which has not been determined at this early stage,” said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton in a statement.

“Investigators will also be working to determine the cause of the fire, which has also not been determined.”
