A 16-year-old hiker died after becoming lost in the Lions Bay area on Sunday.
The Squamish, North Shore and Lions Bay search and rescue teams, along with Squamish RCMP, began their search for two lost hikers shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Mounties said two hikers who had been separated and were lost in the Lions Bay area. It was reported that one of the hikers had fallen down a gully and the other had left the trail to try to find their friend.
North Shore Rescue located and extracted one of the hikers, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
The second hiker who had fallen was found unresponsive and taken to hospital, but died.
Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.
