Alex Megos has just announced his onsight of Nadesjda 5.14c (8C+) at Le Joncas in France. As with any good onsight, he described it as a fight. But of course, Megos is no stranger to hard first-go sends. In 2013, he made history by onsighting Estado Critico, becoming the first climber ever to onsight the grade of 5.14d. He has multiple 5.14+ flashes to his name, including Mr. Big 5.14d, Intermezzo XY Gelöst 5.14d, Pure Imagination 5.14c, Capricorn 5.14c, and Underground 5.14c, among others.
“Sometimes you don’t do the smartest of things on your onsight, like this dead hang clip I did during my onsight of [Nadesjda],” said Megos on Instagram. “I had to do something quickly and under pressure you usually rely on your strengths. This one for sure one of the biggest fights I ever had during an onsight and I was so close to falling a lot of times. Finished the day with a second go ascent of Le blond, la brüte et le manouche [5.14c] and a second go ascent of Progression [5.14a/b]. All in all, a very good day. I absolutely love those days of climbing a bunch of onsights and second go’s!”
In January of this year, Megos went on a sending spree in Fontainebleau. Highlights from his bouldering trip include La Force du Destin V14, Satan i Helvete (départ bas) V14 and Satan i Helvete V13. He climbed three other V13s: Mécanique Élémentaire, Gaïa assis, and La Diagonale des Oufs.
His 2025 was a year for the books. In January, he made the first ascent of Taureg Blanco 5.15b/c in Margalef, Spain. The next day, he flashed Mr. Big 5.14d. In March, he achieved the first-ever flash of the historic Agincourt, France’s first 5.14b. In April, he made another first ascent with Le Grand Saccage 5.15a/b and onsighted Dévers Sévère 5.14b/c in Buoux, France. In August 2025, he clipped the chains on Adam Ondra’s Iron Curtain 5.15a and Kangaroo’s Limb 5.15a in Flatanger, Norway. Megos spent the month of August in Flatanger projecting B.I.G. 5.15d, one of three routes of the grade in the world. He battled skin issues on the climb, as well as frigid temps and rain.
