A man who police say was behind the wheel of a truck that hit three siblings in 2025, killing a six-year-old girl, in a Fraser Heights intersection has been charged.
Baldeep Chahal, 38, is facing 12 charges, including one count of dangerous driving causing death, one count of impaired driving causing death, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
At around 4 p.m. on the afternoon of April 14, 2025, Jayla Chang was walking with her two older siblings — sister Jordyn, 7, and her 16-year-old brother Kohen — in the intersection of 164th Street and 108th Avenue when they were struck by a grey pickup. The vehicle didn’t stop.
Jayla died, while her siblings were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken clavicle for Jordyn.
A pickup was found nearby after striking at least one other vehicle, and the driver was arrested shortly afterward.
Police allege Chahal’s blood-alcohol concentration showed he was impaired. He’s also facing charges of failing to stop after being involved in an accident resulting in death. His first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 1 in Surrey provincial court.
