Stefano Ghisolfi Climbs His First 5.14d in a Day

In February, Stefano Ghisolfi went back to sport climbing, and for the first time in his life, he sent 5.14d (9a) in a day, clipping the chains on Gabriele Moroni’s Mascella Serrata in Arco, Italy. For the Italian climber who has climbed multiple 5.15c routes, it is perhaps surprising that it’s his first time sending a route of such a “modest” difficulty in a single day. To date, he has ascended at least 25 routes graded 5.14d, almost 20 routes graded 5.15a, and nearly a dozen graded 5.15b, according to his 8a.nu. But all have taken more than one day.

“First [5.14d] in a day,” said Ghisolfi on Instagram. “I tried the new route from [Gabriele Moroni] called Mascella Serrata in Arco and after 3 tries of figuring out the betas with Alex Ventajas, I could send it surprisingly on my 4th go. Crazy how many gems are still hidden in Arco and Trentino.”

Lately, Ghisolfi has been spending much more time on boulders than on a rope. In February, he climbed Gioia V16 in Varazze, Italy – it was his first boulder of the grade. On that trip, he also sent Road of Life V14. In March, he went on a sending spree in Ticino, Switzerland. Within ten days, he climbed three V15 problems: Dreamtime, The Story of Two Worlds, and 4-Low.

Ghisolfi is, however, better known for his sport climbing as he is one of the best in the world. He has four 5.15c routes to his name: Perfecto Mundo, Change, Bibliography, and Excalibur. In 2025, Ghisolfi climbed three 5.15b’s in Spain – The Full Journey in Margalef, Chris Sharma’s Sleeping Lion in Siurana, and Neanderthal in Lleida. He is also racking up quite the bouldering resume. In June 2025, he climbed Anam Cara Low V15 in Silvapark, Austria. On a trip to Ticino, Switzerland, in August 2025, he topped Hazel Grace V15 and Andularia V15. In September, he climbed Flow State V15 in Val Daone, Italy. In February this year, he climbed Gioia V16 in Varazze, Italy.
