Met apologises to black community leader detained by officer using excessive force

Exclusive: Jason Matthews was searched by PC Connor Jones who had faced three misconduct proceedings in two years

The Metropolitan police has apologised to a 54-year-old black man who was detained by an officer who has faced three misconduct proceedings for excessive force within the past two years.

Jason Matthews, a well known community leader, was attending Hackney carnival in 2019 when he was detained, and stopped and searched by PC Connor Jones.
