Mullin applauds Hegseth‘s attempts to court Republicans behind closed doors: He’s ‘killing it’

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) applauded Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth for recent productive meetings on the Hill with senators.

“Pete is killing it in the meetings, because he doesn't shy away from the media, from the tough questions,” Mullin said during a Saturday appearance on Fox News.

“And I hear from senator after senator that meets with him and says, 'Man we enjoyed that meeting,'" he told host Brian Kilmeade.

“He took the questions head on, and so I'm excited about the American people being able to hear him answer these questions when we have a hearing for him, January 9 in the Senate Armed Service Committee, I believe that Democrats are going to come out swinging,” he added.

Mullin said Hegseth was ready for tough questions about drinking and sexual assault allegations that may come from Democrats who oppose his nomination.

“They're going to try to just throw literally everything at Pete, but what they're going to see is a guy that knows how to handle some questions because he's already faced them,” Mullin stated.

President-elect Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to Hegseth as a nominee despite controversy.

Hegseth himself has not shown any inclination toward a withdrawal. The former Fox News host has received support from Elon Musk through ads which promote him as a reliable leader.
