New Alpine Rock Route Climbed in Patagonia

This year’s Patagonia season kicked off around two weeks as several visiting climbers got to work repeating old classics and summiting peaks. Accomplished Patagonia climber Colin Haley is also back in the area, he recently noted, “The snowpack on the glaciers is thicker than this date last year, which was already better than the previous years. Yay for more snow and less horrendous talus!”

At least one new route has already been climbed in Torre del Paine National Park. Seba Pelletti and Hernando Salas managed to climb a new 700-metre line up the south face of Trono Blanco in the French Valley in a day. They called their new WI3 M4 Ultima Ronda. Also in Torre del Paine, a 600-metre called Vacaciones Metamórficas was repeated – read about the first ascent in 2022 here.

Also this season, Pedro and Tomas Odell have repeated Anda pa alla, which was first climbed last year by Sean Villanueva O’Driscoll, Leo Gheza, and Matteo della Bordella on Aguja Guillaumet. The brothers then teamed up with Guillermo Navarros for a lap of the 900-metre M5 Los Tiempos Perdidos on Cerro Torre.

Rolando Garibotti has been keeping his Patagonia Vertical social feeds updated with more of this year’s ascents, which includes an ascent of Via dei Ragni on Cerro Torre by Ethan Berkeland, Ballin Miller, and Chris Labosky, an ascent of Supercanaleta on Fitz Roy by Saul Marcos and Jorge Larraz, and a repeat of Exocet by Tom Seccombe and Etienne Potof, and also by Dane Steadman and Allie Oaks.
