Biden slips to lowest approval rating since taking office: Survey

President Biden’s approval rating slipped to the lowest its been since he took office in 2021, according to a new survey that was released Wednesday. 

The Marquette Law School Poll national survey found that Biden’s approval rating dropped to 34 percent in December, a 4-point dip from October's 38 percent, with just more than a month before he is set to depart the White House. The president’s disapproval rating grew to 66 percent this month, increasing by 4 points since October's 62 percent. 

Biden’s approval rating has been below 40 percent in all of the Marquette Law School Poll national surveys since September of last year, the pollster noted. Biden’s highest approval rating was in July 2021, when he clocked in at 58 percent. 

The commander in chief’s favorability also slipped by 2 points compared to October, standing at 37 percent in December. His lowest favorability figure was 34 percent in July 2022, while his highest was 45 percent in November 2021. 

Biden has faced low approval ratings throughout his tenure in the Oval Office. Following his exit from the 2024 presidential election, Biden’s approval rating in a Gallup survey dipped to 36 percent. It was 38 percent in the February Gallup poll

The president’s approval is currently 36.8 percent, according to FiveThirtyEight. In The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s aggregate of polls, Biden’s approval numbers are at 39.4 percent, while 56 percent disapprove. 

The Marquette Law School survey was conducted Dec. 2-11 among 1,063 adults around the country. The margin of error was 3.6 percentage points.
