Luigi Mangione, the person of interest being questioned by police for the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will make his first court appearance Monday evening.
A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania court system said Mangione will appear in person for a “preliminary arraignment” at approximately 6 p.m. EST. He faces local firearms charges.
The proceeding will be held at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, which is located a few miles from where Mangione was arrested Monday morning at a McDonald’s in Altoona.
No video or audio recording of the proceeding will be allowed, the spokesperson said.
Officials took Mangione into custody after a multiday manhunt that began after Thompson was shot early Wednesday morning outside a hotel in midtown Manhattan.
The search captivated national attention, with police releasing multiple photos of a person of interest. An employee at the Altoona McDonald's recognized Mangione and called local police, officials said.
Mangione was carrying a gun, silencer and a fraudulent New Jersey ID with a name on it consistent with the one the suspect used to check into a hostel on Nov. 24, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday. Officers also recovered clothing and a mask “consistent with those worn by our wanted individual" upon his arrest, she said.
