Ottawa 67’s, Barrie Colts brawl during teddy bear toss

A teddy bear toss game is supposed to be a joyous occasion filled with holiday cheer.

The Barrie Colts and Ottawa 67’s clearly didn’t get the memo and opted to channel their inner Ebenezer Scrooge instead.

With the 67’s hosting the annual charity event on Sunday night, teddy bears began to rain onto the ice midway through the second period after Ottawa forward Luca Pinelli scored the first goal of the game.

However, the stuffed animals weren’t the only thing that hit the ice. With hundreds of teddy bears being hurled over the glass, the 67’s and Colts decided to take the opportunity to engage in a massive line brawl.

It was like a scene from a movie. Players were down on the ice wrestling while being pelted with stuffed animals. Even The Grinch could be spotted lurking in the background.

In the end, 52 penalty minutes were handed out after the brawl (six minors and four misconducts). The beautiful game, right?

Shockingly, the bizarre scene on Sunday wasn’t the only teddy bear toss drama of the week in the OHL.

On Wednesday, Saginaw Spirit star forward Michael Misa was suspended one game for shooting objects out of the playing surface, as a result of his actions during last week’s teddy bear toss game against the host Sarnia Sting.

After stuffed animals flooded the rink, the highly regarded 2025 NHL Draft prospect shot three over the boards and back at the fans.

A video posted by YourTV Sarnia shows Misa flipping three of the soft toys over the glass.

It seems safe to assume that we’ve already hit the quota for teddy bear drama this season. But stay tuned to find out.
