More than two dozen Democrats approved a House bill that would create new judicial seats on Thursday despite President Biden's threat to veto the bill.
California’s delegation had the most House Democrats vote in favor of the measure, with 11 members voting for the legislation, named the Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved (JUDGES) Act.
The final vote count was 236-173 after the Senate approved the bill in August.
Multiple California representatives voted to support the bill, which will add 66 federal judicial seats in hopes of clearing courts overwhelmed with cases.
However, Biden opposed the timing of the bill ahead of President-elect Trump's impending administration.
Over the past four years, Biden has vetoed 12 measures successfully without pushback from Congress. If he overturns the JUDGES Act, Congress could override the measure with two-thirds of both chambers in support the legislation.
