Lily Gladstone is making Oscars history as the first Native American woman to be nominated in the best actress category.
The “Killers of the Flower Moon” star was among the five nominees announced Tuesday in Los Angeles.
It’s not the first time that the 37-year-old actor has marked a history-making milestone in Hollywood.
Earlier this month, she became the first Indigenous winner of best actress in a drama at the Golden Globes.
“This is a historic win,” Gladstone, speaking in the Blackfeet language, said during her acceptance speech.
“This is for every little rez kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream, who is seeing themselves represented and our stories told — by ourselves, in our own words — with tremendous allies and tremendous trust from and with each other,” she added.
In addition to Gladstone, other nominees for best actress in a leading role at this year’s Oscars include Annette Bening for “Nyad,” Sandra Hüller for her role in "Anatomy of a Fall," “Maestro’s” Carey Mulligan and Emma Stone in “Poor Things.”
The 96th annual Academy Awards are poised to air March 10 on ABC.
