Two 5.14d First Ascents in Two Days for Stefano Ghisolfi

On December 9, Stefano Ghisolfi made the first ascent of Escaladur 5.14d (9a) in Arco, Italy. “Finally [Excalibur’s] little brother ‘Escaladur’ has been climbed!” said Ghisolfi on Instagram. “It took me few more days then expected, but I did it. Probably [5.14d], maybe [5.15a].”

The following day, he made another 5.14d first ascent – again in Arco – by adding a lower start to Gabrielle Moroni’s Sid Lives 5.14c. This lower variation, which he named Sit Lives, adds four moves and two very hard clips to the start of Sid Lives. On Instagram, Ghisolfi said that one of the clips was probably the hardest in life. Because of this, he used a crash pad to protect the opening moves.

With Escaladur and Sid Lives, Ghisolfi has climbed nine 5.14d routes in 2024. On November 24, he shared a first ascent of a new Arco 5.14d with Gio Placci, Tre Mou Polacche, which Jonathan Siegrist recently repeated. The 31-year-old has four 5.15c sends to his name –Perfecto Mundo, Change, Bibliography, and Excalibur.
